Stop opression on Indigenous people

Leaders of the Bangladesh Indigenous Union yesterday at a human chain in front of the National Press Club demanded the punishment of the killers of indigenous leaders and to stop all kinds of oppressions on them.

They also demanded the immediate formation of the land commission, to stop forcibly removing the indigenous people from their lands and inclusion of the indigenous people who were excluded under the government latest schedule.


The speakers said,‘‘ The government must punish the killers of indigenous leaders comrade Alfred Soren, Sottaband Hajong, Peren Slalsh, whom they said had dedicated their life in bringing the rights of the indigenous community.

Still the oppression , burning fire on the houses of the indigenous people are continue in both hill and plan areas, they alleged.

They condemned the police attacks on the indigenous village at Sherpur of Bogra district on the International Indigenous Day on August 9.


‘‘No government have so far ensure the constitutional rights of the indigenous people,’’ they said, adding the indigenous communities have contributed in all the democratic movements of the country .


Bangladesh Communist Party president Manjurul Ahshan Khan, Dr Dibaloke Sing, Advocate Moshin Reza, Ornab Sarker , Rebeka Soren and Srikanto Meheta, among others, addressed the rally.
